Afghan Cemetery, West Terrace, Adelaide

Afghan Cemetery, West Terrace
Adelaide

Lease 4699 was issued to Faez/Faiz Mahomet in 1896 for a piece of ground 12x7 metres. He transferred the lease to the Mahommedan Congregation of South Australia for the use 'of the faithful of Islam'. By 1925 this area was practically full and Rahan Bukksh on behalf of the Congregation asked for additional ground. A new lease 13032 was issued on the 4th June 1925 for an area equivalent to 16 allotments, immediately to the west of the original lease.

Below are SOME of the headstones of the Afghan section of the West Terrace Cemetery. In an attempt to save as much space as possible and increase the speed of downloading, only part of the stone is displayed. Flinders Ranges Research has a full photograph of each of these, and many others as well.
